The author
Pensri Kiengsiri wurde 1931 im Süden Thailands geboren. Als junge Frau lernte sie Englisch in Malaysia und bildete sich in Australien zur Physiotherapeutin aus. Bald begann sie zu schreiben und gab ihre Arbeit am Krankenhaus in Bangkok auf. Pensri Kiengsiri hat in Thailand zahlreiche Romane, Erzählungen und Gedichte veröffentlich und ist auch als Journalistin tätig. Sie bemüht sich zudem auf vielfältige Weise um die Vermittlung der thailändichen Kultur und hat unter anderem das über 1200 Seiten umfassende Epos «Phra Aphai Mani» ins Englische übersetzt.
