Infos

Mabelle recently moved in a house outside the city. She loves to get on her bike to explore the surroundings. On one of these outings she discovers a meadow with wild marigolds swaying in the wind. How beautifully they glow! She picks a large bunch of flowers to take home.
But when she gets off her bike one morning at the wildflower meadow, she is surprised: there is not a single marigold to be seen. What on earth has happened? Mabelle sets off in search of her favourite flowers …
Uruguayan illustrator Matías Acosta showed his sense of nuances in his picture book «The Summer Guests». With «Mabelle» again he takes us into a world full of small wonders and big connections. The endearing story of Mabelle takes the reader to the vast hilly landscape of Uruguay. With his pencils, the artist created a dreamlike, yet very tangible space for reflection and further thought.

The author and illustrator

Matías Acosta

was born in 1980 in the Uruguayan city of Paysandú. He studied film and animation in Montevideo, after which he began illustrating. In 2015, he won second place in the Uruguayan Ministry of Education and Culture's Children's and Youth Book Illustration Prize, and his work has also been nominated twice for the Nami Concours.
Matías Acosta says of his artistic work: »My illustrations are the result of hours of contemplation. I find it exciting to focus my attention on seemingly simple things. For example, a mountain, a stream or a tree.« Mabelle is his second picture book to be published by Baobab Books as an original edition.
