A picture book from Mexico to count and to tell
It all starts with zero. Nine digits follow – and with that an infinite number of stories. Even the smallest number has a story to tell, and some tell their own story right away. 6, for example, unrolls like a snail into the light. Number 4, on the other hand, is a very practical number: if you turn it upside down, you can sit on it Number 7 is a gift from the rainbow, while number 12 helps to measure the time. But numbers also raise questions: How many words can be formed with the letters of our alphabet? How many stories are contained in a year? And who can count the stars that light up the sky at night?
Mexican illustrator Amanda Mijangos loves numbers just as much as she loves colours and stories. What she particularly likes about numbers is that she never runs out of them. But she never runs out of stories either – and so this colourful counting book comes up with a surprise on every page. Even counting a billion seems easy with this book. A wonderful invitation to juggle with numbers, decipher letters and play with thoughts.
